5 more books I’d add to your summer tbr if you wanted something that isn’t your typical beachy romcom 🐚 We love a fun little romance over here, but we also love reading books that capture the essence of summer through a different lens, so here are some of my favorite stories that do just that 📖🌸🫖 #summertbr #summerreading #bookrecs #bookrecommendation #summerbooks First book I'm going to add is The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young. This book is set on a flower farm in this small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. It's about June Farrow and specifically the women in her family who all seem to go a little mad and at the point we start the book, June is starting to notice symptoms of this madness in herself. And there isn't an element of romance, but I just think this book is so much more than that. It's a very much and mystery and the most beautiful, richly written mystery I have ever read. Perfect for summer. And then because I can, I'm going to add another Kate Morton book, The Clockmaker's Daughter. It is about a young woman who goes and spends a summer with a group of artists in this manner. And by the end of summer, one woman is dead and one woman is missing and the secret of that gets buried for about a century until in present day, a woman named Elodie stumbles across a sketch that was left in the manor from that summer through which she begins a mystery of what happened in that friend group. And then I'm going to add Sunburn by Chloe Michelle Howarth. This is simply one of the best books I have ever read. A Saphic coming of age story set in the 90s in a small conservative town in Ireland. And it's about the summer that our main character Lucy realizes that she is catching feelings for her best friend and everything that comes with having feelings for another girl. It's a great book for the end of summer, right when you hit that back to school season. And I'm going to add The Girls Who Grew Big by Leila Motley. This book was so beautiful and so vivid. It is set in a small forgotten town in the panhandle of Florida and this is about teen girls who are navigating teen pregnancy, the way women always find each other when the world turns their back on them. And I just thought this was such a beautiful, powerful story and that setting makes it perfect for summer. Finally, I'm going to add Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It is about the first group of female astronauts who have been accepted into the NASA program. And before you tell me, but Liz, I'm not really into science or space, neither was I. And yet I am deeply into this book and the relationships that Joan, our main character, forms with the other astronauts in this space program. Honestly, I would say about the less you know about it going in, the better experience you're gonna have. So I'm just gonna leave it at that. You trust me. So there you go. Four more books for your summer TBR if you want something that's not your typical romance and not a beachy romcom. And certainly not a cheesy romcom.
