If I see one more top salesperson be promoted to manager, I'm going to lose it. Just because they're the top salesperson does not mean they're going to be an amazing manager. Those are two completely different roles. One is amazing at their job. The other has to be amazing at making other people amazing at their job. That is a completely different skill set. If you want to promote a manager, promote the person who makes people around them better, not somebody who's a top producer at your company. Because if you hire them as a manager, you're going to lose your top producer and you're going to have a crabby manager. Do not make the same mistakes I did. I beg you.
