Hook

Story time. Story time about how one employee calls us the entire company and how I should have fired them a long time ago but I just didn't see the signs, okay? Let's talk about it. This person came in all go-go-go, we're thinking they have experience, they're gonna do a great job. And they did do a great job. Except every one-on-one, this person cringed, everything was so cringey. And you could never get deep with this person and overall just wasn't a good culture fit. This person was bringing in revenue, which is why we kept this person around. They do the bare minimum, they do what we asked them to do. We can tolerate other things, or maybe we just need to change. Maybe we're not communicating properly. Man, did I underestimate a good culture fit. This person wasn't a bad person. It just wasn't the right fit. And what I just kept pushing off this decision of firing this person, pushing it off, pushing it off, until eventually the whole team's morale dropped and nobody was performing the way that they used to. Nobody was happy. Nobody could feel comfortable conversating or opening up the way that they used to and everything just fell apart. That is the last time I will ever keep anyone around who is not a good culture fit. You shouldn't either. I know it's gonna be hard to see the signs, especially if they're bringing in money. And if you need to bring in two people to replace that one person, bring in two people. I promise you, it's gonna be okay. The keeping somebody around who spoils your company is going to cost you way too much in the long run. Let's say I didn't warn you.
