We saved nearly THOUSANDS on catering feeding 100+ guests!!! One of my biggest fears as a budget bride was that trying to save money would make our wedding feel like a budget wedding. Here are a few budget-conscious ways to feed your wedding guests without sacrificing the experience: 🥂 Passed (heavy) hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour * Guests had something to eat while we finished taking photos. * They weren’t standing around hungry waiting for dinner. * The heavy hors d’oeuvres helped hold everyone over before the main meal. * It instantly gave our cocktail hour a more elevated, luxury feel. 🍽️ Food stations instead of plated meals * Once we finished all of our reception formalities, guests could eat whenever they wanted instead of waiting for tables to be called. * They could grab food, go back for seconds, mingle, and get right back to celebrating. * It made the reception flow so much better and gave us SO much more time to actually enjoy our guests. * Honestly… it was way less of a headache to coordinate. ✨ The biggest benefit? More time to actually enjoy our reception. I literally remember checking the time thinking, “Dang… we still have so much time left!” (I was tiedddddd 😂) I definitely recommend shopping around and asking caterers if they offer food stations and passed food options. Not every caterer advertises it the same way, so it’s always worth asking. 💡 Bonus Tip: Get every quote that’s based on your guest count before you send out save-the-dates or invitations. I was a budget bride and I had over 100 people at my wedding. There are two true hacks on how we saved tens of thousands of dollars on food and drinks alone. When I first started planning my wedding, I definitely assumed that I'd be doing plated meals, the traditional route that most brides take. And then I started getting quotes and it was outrageous. I know food is the most expensive part of a wedding, but at that point, when I realized how expensive it actually was, I had already sent out the save the dates. It was a little too late to backtrack. I was real close to sending out text messages saying, hey y'all, never mind, don't come. So I had to figure out another way to feed all these people. So, budget bride, obviously my number one goal is to save money. But I still want to have that elevated, luxury feel for my wedding that every girl wants to have. So we actually did passed hors d'oeuvres for cocktail hour. Having something passed around during cocktail hour, it gave that elevated, luxurious feel. And then for dinner, this was the true hack. We actually, instead of doing plated meals, we ended up doing food stations instead of plated meals. That saved us over $10,000 by choosing to not do plated meals and going this route instead. More importantly, this allowed our reception to flow so much better. It gave us so much time to actually enjoy the night. So after we knocked out the reception formalities, guests were able to go and eat as they please. They didn't have to wait around for their tables to be called. We also didn't have to wait for everyone to finish eating to actually get the party started. I tell y'all, this gave me and my husband so much time, like a little bit too much time to actually enjoy our reception. We were able to dance, we were able to relax a little bit, still enjoy time with our guests. Overall, like the best part is really not having to feel like you sacrificed just because you're saving money. I definitely think this is going to be into a part two.
