As a child to wealthy parents, our child will receive shareholder letters when she turns 18. And here's the thinking behind it. So when most people think of inheritance, they only think about money, but we think that's only part of the story. The other part is wisdom. And in our household, we define wisdom as the application of knowledge at the right time. I read this book a long time ago called The 38 Letters from J.D. Rockefeller to his son. The context is J.D. Rockefeller was a billionaire in his time, or the equivalent of it, and he wanted to pass on wisdom to his son. That wasn't the only example that I've seen in recent times. You all might know someone called Warren Buffett. Buffett's famous for building a business called Berkshire Hathaway, and every year he writes shareholder letters, which are just explanations of the investments that he's made. Now has come the time when he's passed on the business to a new CEO, and that CEO has decades of shareholder's letters to learn from. During his time leading the business, he doesn't have to start from scratch. And that's exactly what we want for our daughter. Wealth is transferred in a moment, whether it's when we pass away or when we give our daughter her inheritance. The thinking behind the decisions that led to our wealth is what ends up protecting the wealth, giving it longevity, or even helping our daughter and future children expand it. You don't have to write shareholder letters like us. It's a bit OTT, yeah. But if you are thinking about how you're going to transfer your wealth in a way that is genuinely tangible, and you're able to actually transfer your knowledge that comes with it, then you might want to start thinking about documenting what you are doing for your child, whether that's filming videos or creating a substack, something where your child can read it and understand the thinking behind some of your major decisions that actually built your wealth in the first place.
