One of the best financial decisions we made was actually going down to one income. When we got married, we decided that one of us would use our income to cover bills and expenses, and the other person would be using their time to build a business. That's because we had a very vivid picture of what we wanted our future to look like, and we didn't want to be dependent on a salary. So, whilst Jeremy was pursuing his career, I was there trying to build a business that would scale, and hopefully would allow us to have the financial freedom that we want in the future. It also meant that once we had a business that was flexible, and one that we could work from anywhere, he didn't have golden handcuffs. I think something to point out here is that for anyone that's built a business, you know that it's not linear, it's not straightforward. You don't just build one and it's successful. It takes multiple attempts. But if one person doesn't have the pressure of needing to provide, they have that flexibility and that freedom to just try multiple things. And the reality is, it can get difficult at times where one person might feel as though they're being pressured to build something successful, and the other person might also feel as though they aren't delivering. As long as you're both aligned that you're working at this together to build the future that you both want, eventually, I believe that the business will stick and you'll reach that goal. It definitely took some time, however, now we're at a stage where life looks a lot better and we're much further ahead.
