If you're an overconsumer, I need you to stop and listen to this. This is coming from a nurse who's been an overconsumer for two years. I was making decent money, I was living with my parents, but I still was broke, living paycheck to paycheck. And it was because of my spending habits. So this is everything that I did to stop overconsuming. Number one is you have to get off your phone. Stop scrolling Pinterest, stop scrolling TikTok. Just stop scrolling. When I was overconsuming, going on social media and seeing everything that everyone else had that I didn't have was just a big trigger for me. It always makes me feel like I didn't have enough and it also blinds you from looking at what you do have and being grateful for that. Number two, realizing I do have enough. What I mean by this is when you see everything that everyone else has, then you feel like you don't have enough because you're operating from a state of scarcity. So what I mean by this is when you see everything that everyone else has, then you don't have enough because you're operating from a state of scarcity. And because you want more and more and more, there's no limit to how much you're willing to spend to get more. So you have to get over a feeling of scarcity because not enough, you actually do have enough and you don't need anything else. Moving on to my third point. This is actually the thing that helped me the most. You have to have a goal. It can be any goal. Saving for a house, saving for a car, saving just to save, anything. For example, my goal was to save $50,000 in two years so I can move me and my daughter out of my parents' house. And once I finally had that goal for myself, I had something that I was working towards. And every time I would go to purchase something, I would think, is this helping my goal or is it hurting my goal? This is not to say to not spend money. Having a healthy relationship with money is saving and to spend. The key is to be intentional. Why we work anyway? To spend our money. Trust me, I know easier said than done. Was truly shopping is truly an addiction and that's why it's so hard to break. But once you break it, you will never go back. I hope this gives you some food for thought and I wish you the best on your journey.
