You can divide Iris after they bloom. I would prefer you to wait until after any heat waves have passed, but you can divide in the summer or the fall. Iris roots do not want to be buried deeply and they’re very easy to break off a piece with a shovel. This will help ensure your Iris patch continues to give you healthy blooms! Iris sometimes stop blooming when their roots are too tight. That is when they benefit from being divided.
