You can't change someone who refuses to see a problem with their behaviour. Think about that for a moment. One of the hardest lessons in life is realizing that love alone cannot change a person. You can give advice, show kindness, pray for them and stand beside them through difficult times. But if they refuse to acknowledge their actions, nothing you do will make a lasting difference. Real change begins with humility. Before someone can become better, they must first first admit that something needs to change. That without that first step, every sacrifice becomes like planting hard seeds on hard ground. Many people spend years rescue someone who has no intention of growing. They keep making excuses, hoping tomorrow will be different. But tomorrow comes and the same cycle repeats itself. Meanwhile, the person trying to help becomes exhausted. You lose sleep, you lose joy. You begin carrying burdens that God never asked you to carry. Slowly, your peace disappears because you're fighting a battle that the other person hasn't decided to fight. Listen carefully. You are not responsible for changing someone's heart. Only God can do that. Your responsibility is to love wisely, speak the truth with kindness, and know when it's time to step back. Says the Bible, above all else, guard your heart, for everything flows from it. Proverbs 4:23. Guarding your heart doesn't mean you stop loving people. It means you refuse to let someone else's unhealthy choices steal the peace God has given you. Not everyone who is hurting is ready to heal. Some people want sympathy without responsibility. Others enjoy being rescued but resist being transformed. If you keep carrying people who refuse to walk, eventually you will become too tired to keep moving yourself. There is nothing selfish about setting healthy boundaries. Sometimes, the most loving thing you can do is let people experience the consequences of their own decisions while you continue praying for them from a distance. Remember this: people encourage, but you cannot choose for them. You can open the door, but they must decide to walk through it. So stop blaming yourself for someone else's refusal to change. Protect your peace. Trust God with what you cannot control. Keep moving forward in faith. May God give you the wisdom to recognize where your energy is needed and the courage to set healthy boundaries and the peace that comes from placing every burden into His hands. In Jesus name, amen.
