I'm going to Europe in a couple of weeks and I plan to do some serious designer shopping. Don't worry, I did the hard hitting research so that you don't have to. I'm going to break down which items and which brands you actually should buy in Europe and then which ones you should wait and buy in the US. Here is my wish list with a side-by-side comparison of the price in LA versus the price in Paris. And then once you factor in the VAT refund, what your total savings will be if I buy it in Paris versus LA. Obviously, these two really depend on the VAT. Look at the price in LA versus the price in Paris, already it makes so much more sense, obviously, to buy your Birkin or your Kelly in Paris. And then once you consider how much of a refund that you're going to get for each of these items, look at the total savings of buying all of these things in Paris versus LA. Really the only thing that does not make sense to buy in Paris is these Tiffany diamond studs. I think that's because Tiffany out of all of these brands is the only one that's in America. So it's always going to be cheaper to buy it in the US. You also want to consider the sales tax that you're going to be paying for the state that you live in. So I live in California, so I'm avoiding like 9.5% sales tax. Plus the VAT refund that I'm going to get for every $10,000 let's say I spend in designer items in Europe, I'm getting anywhere from 1200 to 2000 dollars back. Literally girl math, like treat yourself, but be smart about it. There's really three findings that determine whether you should buy your designer item in Europe versus the US. Number one, if the brand is a European brand, it's always going to be cheaper to buy it in Europe. So do that. You also want to consider the sales tax that you're going to be paying for the state that you live in. So I live in California, so I'm avoiding like 9.5% sales tax.
