If you're getting interviews but no job offers, the hiring manager is probably seeing something you're not

Here are the most common mistakes I see and how to fix them: 1. You’re telling stories instead of proving competence. Don’t spend two minutes explaining what happened. Spend those two minutes showing what you noticed, the decision you made, why you made it, and the result. Hiring managers already know projects go wrong. They’re trying to figure out how you respond when they do. 2. You’re making claims without evidence. Don’t say, “I’m a great communicator.” Prove it with a specific example where your communication prevented a problem, aligned stakeholders, or influenced a decision. 3. You’re answering the question instead of the role. Every answer should connect back to what they’re hiring for. Before your interview, identify the 5–7 most important responsibilities in the job description and make sure your stories demonstrate those exact skills. 4. You’re preparing answers instead of preparing evidence. Create a bank of 8–10 strong career stories that cover leadership, conflict, problem-solving, difficult stakeholders, failure, deadlines, customer service, teamwork, and initiative. Those stories can answer dozens of behavioural questions. 5. You’re practicing in your head. Record yourself. Watch it back. You’ll quickly notice rambling, filler words, weak endings, and missed opportunities to highlight your impact. One question to ask yourself after every answer is: “If I were the hiring manager, what evidence did I just provide that I’d succeed in this role?” If you can’t answer that, neither can they. #jobinterview #hiring #interviewprep
