Let me tell you how to not look like everyone else. I need you to listen to me. I'm a creative director, I work with influencers and celebrities and funded founders. Here's what I want you to think about. Your childhood. Is this therapist Ashley Kelly? Yeah, low key. Think about your childhood. Where did you grow up? What are symbols that evoke and represent where you grew up? What was your relationship like as a family when times were good? What makes you feel nostalgic? What is your relationship with your grandparents? Like, what is your relationship to your ethnicity and heritage? Like, what is your relationship with your siblings? Like, what is a really hard time that you went through and like what pulled you out of it? Everything I just mentioned, write everything down. There are motifs, a patchwork quilt stitching that your grandma made, a painted piece of pottery that your dad built or made in the 80s, a t-shirt that your mom used to always wear around the house and like bake cookie dough with you. What are those things that matter to you? I can make those beautiful. And that is what we need to be weaving into brands. A brand can be the clean girl aesthetic, but if that's all it is, it's nothing. It needs a unique point of view and I want to give you permission, actually an assignment to bring your unique point of view to this. That is how you bring heart into this. This is how you connect with people. The Paige Lauren example, she grew up in a small town in Connecticut with chickens and horses and she grew up drinking whole milk and she was an influencer in New York and she just one day was like, why am I drinking oat milk? I don't even like it. I miss whole milk. It reminds me of my childhood. I miss that. Puts on her story, everyone resonates, enter Dairy Boy. The clean girl aesthetic filter is applied over it. That's my job. I can make anything beautiful. It's your job to be brave enough to share something that's deeply vulnerable and personal to you.
