When Apple unveiled the first iPhone in 2007, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer dismissed it as a $500 phone without a physical keyboard, arguing it wouldn’t appeal to business users or make a good email device. Instead, he backed Windows Mobile phones like the Motorola Q, which already offered email, internet, music, and instant messaging for a fraction of the price. At the time, it was a reasonable take. BlackBerry, Nokia, and Windows Mobile dominated the smartphone market, and keyboards were considered essential. What Ballmer underestimated was that Steve Jobs wasn’t building a better phone—he was reinventing personal computing. The iPhone, iOS, and the App Store went on to transform the smartphone industry and permanently change consumer technology. #Apple #iPhone #SteveJobs #SteveBallmer #Microsoft
