There are five horror movies that released in 2026 that are streaming on HBO Max. So if you're like me and you're playing catch up on this year's movies and need something new to watch, Max is the place to be. First up is They Will Kill You. This one is about a woman that takes a live-in housekeeper job at a mysterious New York high rise. Only to discover that the building has a long history of unexplained disappearances. What seems like a simple job becomes a desperate fight for survival against a terrifying evil that lurks inside. I went into this one thinking it was going to be a ready or not knockoff and I was very wrong. It does its own thing and there are some things that really surprised me. It jumps right into the action and it does not let up. If you want to watch a survival, cult, horror comedy for sure give this one a watch. It is a fun time. Next up is Lee Cronin's The Mummy. This one is about a family whose life is shattered when their young daughter goes missing in Egypt. She randomly returns years later, but the reunion quickly turns into a nightmare. She's carrying an ancient malevolent force that threatens to consume everyone around her. This one for sure has that Lee Cronin style, which I love, but it does feel like an evil dead movie. I have heard that this one ties into that universe, so I want to look more into that because that is so intriguing to me. I do wish that it was a little bit more mummy focused. It does feel like a possession movie, but I still enjoyed it. But if you're looking for a creepy monster mystery movie, you can now find this one on HBO Max. And then we have Undertone. This one is about a skeptical paranormal podcast host who receives a series of disturbing audio recordings. As she investigates their origins, the recordings unleash a terrifying supernatural force, blurring the lines between reality and a nightmare, drawing her into a chilling mystery that she may not survive. This one is pretty creepy and I think the reason why is because it is a slow burn, so you are just constantly on edge, wondering if something is going to pop out at you. It does get a lot of mixed reviews because of that slow build up, so just go into this one knowing it is not going to be non-stop action. Next is The Bride! It's set in 1930s Chicago and follows Frankenstein who is seeking a companion. This leads him to a brilliant scientist who helps him resurrect a young woman and this creates The Bride! This one is a classic monster movie with a modern twist. It is a darker reimagining of The Bride of Frankenstein. I have not seen this one, but I'm not a big classic monster movie fan. Maybe I just need to watch more of them, so give me a recommendation. But if you want a gothic monster movie, a mystery movie, you can now find this one on HBO Max. And last but not least, Greenland 2: Migration. This one follows the surviving Gerardi family who must leave the safety of the Greenland bunker and embark on a dangerous journey across the frozen wastelands of Europe to find a new home. Okay, I know this is not a straight up horror movie, but it is a survival, sci-fi, disaster thriller and those all fall under the horror umbrella. So we're talking about it. I have not seen these movies, but I really like these survival type stories and so I need to check these out.
