Coming from a corporate girl who just quit her job, here are three things that you always want to do on your way out. Number one, leave a very thorough transition document. Don't just slap together a word document that has the projects that you've been working on, actually include key contacts, what are the next steps, what are the things that you've completed thus far, and what are the deadlines that are coming up for the project. There's literally no training in corporate America anymore, so you want to make it as easy as possible for the next person. Number two, send out a mass thank you email within five days of you leaving to your mentors and your sponsors. I say it all the time, but corporate America is literally the relationship business. You want to make sure that you take the time to acknowledge the people who have supported your growth along the way, especially if you were really visible within the organization. Industries are smaller than you think, and you never know who you're going to work with or for again in the future. And number three, and I know that this is going to be a little controversial, never burn a bridge on your way out. Specifically when it comes to your exit interview, do not use that as an opportunity to settle the score. Nothing in corporate America is truly anonymous, and people are going to take note of how you exit the organization. Protect your reputation by all means and let God handle them on the back end.
