The Louvre’s iconic Apollo Gallery has reopened nine months after one of the biggest museum heists in history exposed security flaws at the world’s most visited museum. The gallery was closed after thieves stole French Crown Jewels worth an estimated £76 million in October 2025, escaping with eight priceless pieces in less than seven minutes. The stolen jewels, including the famous Regent Diamond, are still missing, except for Empress Eugénie’s damaged crown, which is being restored. Visitors can now return to the historic gallery, but the jewels that once drew crowds will eventually be moved to a new high-security display area. The Apollo Gallery, created under Louis XIV and later an inspiration for the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles, will instead showcase its architecture and artwork while the investigation continues. #louvre #heist
