If you can't sit on the couch for 20 minutes without feeling an overwhelming wave of guilt or if a slow day at work makes you feel like an absolute failure, I need you to pause, my friend. You are not lazy and you do not have a time management problem. You are living under conditions of worth. What's up? My name is Rich. I'm a licensed therapist and here's 30 Seconds of Therapy. Let's talk about: Conditions of Worth. Person-centered therapy, we look at how we were taught to view our value. From a young age, most of us absorb an unconscious rule: I am only worthy if I am producing. We trade our rest for approval. So when you finally try to slow down, your brain registers unproductivity as a threat to your safety. You aren't resting, you're just anxiously waiting for the next task so you can prove your right to exist again. Here's the truth you need to internalize today: Your worth is a baseline, not a daily performance review. You do not need to earn your rest by running yourself into the ground. You are a human being, not a human doing. Unconditional self-regard means honoring your existence on the days you accomplish everything and also on the days you accomplish absolutely nothing. Clock out mentally today. Your value doesn't drop when you rest.
