Why Shopify loves chargebacks

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Shopify, but probably the scummiest thing they have is their chargeback policy. If you're new to the game, listen up because you could get screwed if you don't know these things. First of all, when a customer places a chargeback, they automatically get the money back temporarily until the bank can decide whether you're right or wrong. That means you temporarily lose that capital which you could have used towards scaling. That's not really the scummy part, because that's industry standard. But the terrible thing is that Shopify will charge you a $15 chargeback fee for them handling your resolution, but they're not even the ones who handle it. It's actually the bank. So them charging you that $15 is completely optional, just because they like it. My second issue is more with the system itself than with Shopify, and that even if you submit all of the evidence to prove that you did deliver the product and that it wasn't a fraudulent order, the credit card company still side with the customer. Because the customer of the card. The credit card companies don't care about you, they want to keep the customers loyalty. And be. And probably biggest issue is with Shopify's Network Dispute Resolution Program. At a certain point, if you have more than a 1% chargeback rate, which means that if you get one order out of every 100 orders with a chargeback, then they can automatically enroll you into a program where every single chargeback is resolved in the customer's favour, no matter what proof you have. And you can't even dispute Shopify adding you to this program, so you just have to deal with it until they decide to remove you. The only way to get out of it is to have your store have less than a chargeback rate for 90 days and there keep it there for 30 more days after you achieve the sufficient rate. If during this period, if even chargebacks, they still give the money back to the customer and it still counts towards your chargeback rate. So it's really hard to actually get out of it. It's hell.
