Sinking hips are one of the most common problems, especially for beginners and adult swimmers. Very often, it comes down to three things. 1️⃣ Poor ankle flexibility. ❗️ On average, male swimmers have stiffer ankles, which makes the problem worse. 🔵 If your ankles are stiff, your kick creates more resistance instead of propulsion. Better ankle flexibility means a smoother kick. A smoother kick helps lift your body higher on the surface. 2️⃣ Head position and balance. ❗️ Swimming is all about balance. If you lift your head too high, your legs will drop immediately. 🏊♂️ You need a neutral head position. Back of the head dry when you’re not breathing. Eyes looking slightly forward at the bottom of the pool. If it’s too low, you push water and create drag. 3️⃣ Over-rotation. ❗️ When you rotate too much, especially with the hips, your lower body sinks faster. 🏊♂️ Simple physics. When you turn too far onto your side, you increase resistance and lose balance. Your shoulders should rotate. Your hips should rotate slightly less than your shoulders. 👍 If hips and shoulders rotate the same amount, the legs usually drop, especially during breathing. 🏆 If you want to see exactly why your hips are sinking, inside the Swim Success Training App you can get a personal video stroke analysis. 🎥 You send your swim video.
