90% of adult swimmers struggle with sinking legs. And in almost every stroke review I do, the problem is never the kick itself. It's always one of these three things. 1️⃣ Too much hip rotation. 👉 When you over rotate your hips, your lower body automatically drops. No matter how good your kick is, if your hips are rotating too much your legs will sink every single time. ✅ Let your shoulders rotate freely. Keep your hips just a little more stable. That small adjustment makes an immediate difference. 2️⃣ Ankle flexibility. 🔴 If your ankles are stiff and your feet point like hockey sticks, there is no technique in the world that will fully fix your sinking legs. 🔵 Stiff ankles create resistance instead of propulsion. Your feet fall outside the natural line of your body and drag you down with every kick. ✅ Work on your ankle flexibility off the pool. It is one of the highest return investments you can make as a swimmer. 3️⃣ Toes pointing outward during the glide. 👉 This one is more subtle but I see it constantly with swimmers who are already quite advanced. Between kicks, when your legs are gliding, your toes naturally fall outward like in breaststroke. And that small thing creates resistance the whole time your legs are supposed to be resting. ✅ Simple fix. During the glide, turn your knees very slightly inward. Your feet will follow and sit in a much cleaner position with almost no resistance. 🎯 If you want to know exactly which of these three is causing your legs to sink, film yourself on your phone and send it inside the Swim Success Training app. I'll personally review your stroke and tell you exactly what to fix first.
