Those are the words spoken by Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough after a Gwynn Oak mother discovered her two children shot to death inside their own home. Keith Maurice James, 16, has since been arrested and charged for the July 7 murders of Giovanna Myrie, 15, and her 9-year-old brother, Steve Allen. Their mother told police she left home for work at approximately 7am, and last spoke to Giovanna via text message around 4 that afternoon. Upon returning home after 7pm, is when both children were found dead. Giovanna was shot multiple times in her bed, while Steve was left lying near the hallway. A witness later told detectives that Giovanna had recently started talking to Keith. The two reportedly met up at Giovanna's house on July 4th, at which time they chatted with the witness over FaceTime. According to charging documents, the witness recalled seeing Keith holding a gun while in bed with Giovanna. At some point during the conversation the witness heard Keith tell Giovanna, he'd have to kill her if she "messed around with any other guys."

I'd like to say first that this obviously an unspeakable tragedy. But he waived Thursday's bail review at the request of James's attorney Brian Thompson. But I would ask everyone to understand that we're only at the very beginning of this investigation. Our investigation has not really even started. Police announced James had been arrested on Wednesday, just over two weeks after 15-year-old Giovanna Myrie and 15-year-old Giovanna Myrie were shot dead inside of a Gwynn Oak home. Their parents found them dead and called 911. Police charging documents now paint a clearer picture of their evidence. After the murder, detectives spoke with a witness who said James had been seen by Myrie, the 15-year-old victim. And according to that witness, James told Myrie he'd have to kill her if she messed around with any other guys. Police Chief Robert McCullough on Wednesday night. We need to make sure we know who our kids are associating with. So we need to be mindful of those things. The final issue is, is just dating violence, teen violence, you know, between people who have relationships. So we need to be mindful of those things. Documents say detectives trace James's movements leading up to the murder. They say he was on an MTA bus camera being dropped off at a bus stop half a mile away from the crime scene that afternoon. After the murder, footage captured James walking next to a nearby home. Then on Flattery Lane and Liberty Heights Avenue. Footage then showed him boarding another bus going into Baltimore City. In a police interview, investigators say James denied meeting up with Myrie since the Fourth of July. James's attorney is urging patience for the process to play out. Our client, like every other citizen in the United States, is entitled to the presumption of innocence. So I would ask everyone to understand that this case is going to go on for quite a while. And I would ask everyone to reserve judgment. James is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center ahead of his initial appearance in circuit court. Jack Watson WMAR 2 News.
