I'm Janine Wright and in Annapolis starting next month these speed cameras will operate 24/7 in Annapolis. It's all thanks to a decision from the city to expand the program. Speed cameras in Annapolis currently run on a set schedule. They operate Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. but now that's going to change. And it's not just the times that are changing, the cost of speeding is also increasing depending on how fast a person is driving over the limit. A ticket can either be $40 or just over $400. Police Chief Amy Miguez says they're also adding new cameras to the city. We've had these cameras in place for so long. We've seen the number of citations being issued drop over time. So it's obviously making a difference. The people who travel that route regularly know that there are cameras, they know that they need to slow down. The new locations for speeding cameras this year on Edgehill Street where officials say many people were speeding. In another one will be added to West Street near the library. Officials say in addition to the new cameras this year, they will continue to add more speed cameras throughout the city in the future. Janine Wright, WMAR2 News.
