CHARGING DOCS: MAN THREATENED TO MAKE GIRLFRIEND EAT SON'S ASHES BEFORE FIRE

The Anne Arundel County Police Department arrested a man in connection to setting this house on fire. He is now facing arson and attempted murder charges. Last Tuesday, just before 10:30 PM, the Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded to a call about a house fire on the 1200 block of Aster Drive. The fire was mainly contained towards the kitchen and the stove area of the kitchen, and the cabinets area of the kitchen, but the house was on fire. While investigating the fire, the department determined it was set by Saturday. The police department issued a warrant for the arrest of 64-year-old Carmelo Latorre in connection to the fire. Shortly after, police arrested Latorre. Based on the charging documents, Latorre is a resident at the home along with one victim, a woman who Latorre allegedly threatened to kill before starting the fire. Police were able to obtain video and audio evidence from the victim supporting these claims. The charging documents allege that Latorre was captured on video saying, "I'm going to burn this house right to the f***ing ground. I'm getting out of here. I'm going to burn it down to the ground." "You are going to f***ing die in this house. You're going to die in this house, b****. You're going to die." Fire paramedic Don Climb says because the other resident was inside at the time of the fire, Latorre is being charged with attempted murder. They were in conjunction with the Anne Arundel County Police Department and were able to bring this to a quick resolution and a positive outcome. Latorre is currently being held without bond and a preliminary hearing is set for August 26th. Janee Wright, WMAR-2 News.
