HOW WE BUILT OUR PADDLEBOARD CATAMARAN Today we're going to show you guys how we did our DIY paddleboard catamaran and we even have a parts list for you. So we'll do a full walk around and then Sydney will show you the parts list. If you haven't seen the video of us actually building it the first time around, go and check that out. First step, we have attached the paddleboards to the frame. Self-retracting ratchet straps. These basically go under the board and it clips on. So you have four of them. There's two straps on each board. And once you get it centered, it kind of holds tight and everything. So yeah, that's how we protect the boards from the frame. What we did is we got one inch pipe insulation, foam. You can see and it's actually self-adhering. So wrapped it with the insulation all the way to the edge where the board is touching it. And then we took electrical tape and then we literally just wrapped it around. So it's soft, foamy, it's not gonna damage our boards. The nicest thing about this paddleboard catamaran is actually having chairs to sit down in. So we do that. We have Velcro straps around the frame that attaches our chairs right here. One inch aluminum bar basically. It's very light. The whole thing is very light. You'll see that we did a cross beam that keeps it from shifting side to side. Moving up to our platform that holds the bin with the battery and the motor. We did 3/4 inch nice finished plywood. We meant to do like a waterproof coating on it, which you can definitely do. And then the motor mount. It just clamps onto here and you tighten it. In order to power this, we have an electric trolling motor. It's a Minn Kota 55 pound thrust. It's quiet. It's ran off of a battery. So in the side of our little bin right here, we have a deep cycle marine battery, 100 amp hour. And then runs the motor. We run the whole through one of these bins. So that's kind of hiding the wiring. Coming back down here, this is steel unistrut. Very strong. Goes all the way through these two pieces of frame, our decking and then to the unistrut to the top. Two here, then there's two here. Although the paddleboards do break down into their own backpack. The frame does not. That's the downside of ours, but ours is a lot cheaper.
