Getting into reading Wonder Woman can be pretty confusing. However, I'm here to try and make that journey a lot easier for you. Hi, I'm Wondywoman and I've read every single Wonder Woman book and I want you to fall in love with this character the same way I have and I want you to stick with reading this character. I've spoken about books to avoid reading, however, what the best books to begin reading this character? Well, I have four here and the keyword is going to be accessibility. Books you can be able to find on your local comic book shelves. Most of these books are gonna revolve around Diana's origin. An elseworld story that is currently an ongoing. I think most of you will know what that book is. So let's go through these in no particular order. My first recommendation is Wonder Woman, Greg Rucka with the art by Nicola Scott. This is a modern retelling of Diana's origin. And the reason why I recommend this is this is actually getting a reprint for Wonder Woman's 85th anniversary, making it extremely accessible and readily available. And it's just one book and it is a very lovely easy read. This book will give you an introduction to the Amazons, Themyscira, the supporting cast, which includes Steve Trevor, Barbara Ann Minerva, Etta Candy and so much more. You'll see her first villain in Ares and it ultimately gives you a great introduction to the world of Wonder Woman and it really does give you such fantastic characterization. And Rucka nails the writing. He is one of the best writers when it comes to this character. And Nicola Scott's art is absolutely beautiful. My second recommendation is arguably the most important in post-crisis Wonder Woman history. And that is George Perez, Volume 1 from 1987. This book featuring the story arc, Gods and Mortals is the blueprint or the fundamentals of modern Wonder Woman. This is the quintessential Wonder Woman run. There are six books in total, a lot of reading. But this first book will give you a full understanding and idea of who Diana is, who the Amazons are and the world of Themyscira. Wonder Woman, mythology and the huge supporting cast and is absolutely fantastic and it holds up until this day. This book is absolutely phenomenal. Albeit, there are things that haven't aged that great, things that we can call quite problematic. This book is absolutely phenomenal and a must read. And I highly recommend everyone go and read this. And Year One by Greg Rucka, very loosely based around this book. Here. Year One is basically a more modernized retelling of this. This is incredibly in-depth and Perez put so much thought and love into this. It is absolutely a masterpiece. Now my third recommendation is actually kind of a strange one, but more because of accessibility and also because this book features the first arc I actually started with when I came to Wonder Woman, the Circle by Gail Simone. So this specific book is Wonder Woman: Origins & Omens from the DC Finest collection. And this is half of the Gail Simone Wonder Woman run, which is absolutely phenomenal. So what exactly is so great about the Circle? It is another sort of origin story for Diana, albeit it's very much focused on in a way, sort of prophecy around Diana and a group of four women titled The Circle. We see Diana come back to Themyscira to stop an invasion and it's also a really fantastic story. However, the downsides of this particular story is that the story that happens before, which is Amazon's attack and you have Diana running around as her Diana Prince secret identity, a little bit does kinda throw you kinda like on exactly. But it is very easy to figure out what's going on because Gail Simone has written this so well. And if you do pick this book up, you get half of the Gail Simone Wonder Woman run. You can just keep reading this. You get half of a Wonder Woman run. It is fantastic. So this is definitely a must read and a must buy from me. And if you end up absolutely loving the second volume, titled Wonder Woman, Dawn Before Darkness, of the Gail Simone run, which I do highly recommend. And lastly, we have Absolute Wonder Woman. So commonly recommended to people. Now, I want people to be very much aware, this is an elseworld story. But what makes Absolute Wonder Woman so fantastic is the Diana in all the amazing elements of previous versions that have come before it. So it grabs things from the Simone run, the Rucka run, the Wilson run, the Clean run and it's all in here. However, she's raised in a completely different environment, the same character. And that's what makes this so special, because Thompson completely understands who Diana is as a character, despite the circumstances of how she's raised in. And it has some really amazing art from Hayden Sherman. The coloring from Jordie Bellaire is absolutely top tier. The reason why Absolute Wonder Woman works so well is because Kelly Thompson has taken all that inspiration from so many incredible runs. So you get such of who Diana character, her characterization is almost identical to what you should expect to find in mainline. However, I want people to remember this, the one in mainline, the one in mainline, they are two completely different characters. Of the day, their worlds are different. There's many things that separate the two. It's not an accurate depiction of who mainline Wonder Woman is, but it is a pretty good introduction to reading Wonder Woman and Diana because you will understand her character from this. The love, compassion, empathy she has, all of that translates to exactly who mainline is. What Kelly Thompson uses as inspiration of what makes this so incredible in the first place. Wonder Woman has so many incredible books. I could talk about more of them in this video. However, next video I'm gonna talk about some standalone stories that are really fantastic that I recommend you go and read. So if they're missing from this video, chances are I'm talking about them next time. Hopefully you found this helpful. Yeah and go and pick up Wonder Woman Year One because this should be readily available now or very soon.
