Why it worked
The video taps into a common desire for a more fulfilling life outside of work, presenting a relatable problem (post-work exhaustion) and a desirable solution (walkable city living) with a strong personal endorsement.
Summary
The speaker argues that living in a walkable city significantly enhances one's quality of life after work by making it easier to engage in social activities and hobbies. They contrast this with the difficulties of driving and parking in less walkable areas, emphasizing that the accessibility of a city is key to avoiding post-work exhaustion and misery.
Structure
- 1The difficulty of post-work activities in non-walkable cities
- 2The ease of post-work activities in walkable cities
- 3The benefits of city life beyond convenience
- 4The value of walkable cities despite high rent

I don't think people realize how much easier it is to do fun things after work when you live in a big walkable city. I hear all the time, oh, I'm too tired to do things after work. I don't know how people do it. I don't know how they do it. I wouldn't be able to do it either if I had to drive home, get myself ready, get myself together, and then proceed to drive home, get ready, look for parking to go do anything. That sounds horrible. Instead, I walk home from my job, and then I get ready, and then I walk to beach volleyball. I hang out with my friends. I walk to the bar, have a couple drinks, and then I walk home. The difference it makes is just so astounding. And I feel like this is just genuinely the key to enjoying your life when you work a 9 to 5. If you are going to work, coming home, making dinner, watching TV, sleep, repeat, you are destined to be miserable in my opinion. Big cities also have a million different things you can do and try, and a bunch of people your age that you can meet. You might discover a hobby that you haven't even found yet and you've fallen in love with it. How exciting is that? Yes, the rent is expensive, but in my opinion, it is so worth it to network, enjoy your life, and have more career opportunities too.
