Almost two years ago I made a hydrangea mug that took an entire day to paint and hours to glaze but it looked horrible after firing. The worst part about it is that the video of me painting the mug reached nearly 3 million people which inspired others to paint hydrangeas the way I did. Just to be disappointed by the result. So if you are one of those people that I let astray, I am so sorry and today I am finally retrying the hydrangea mug. The main thing I learned is that you shouldn't start with the darkest color when it comes to underglaze because lighter colors are a lot more translucent when fired. So start with the lightest blue before shading with the darker hues. Also, I'm doing this flower by flower instead of starting with a dark blob like last time and it did take forever to paint, but I think and hope that it's going to be worth it in the end. I added a bit more dimension to my leaves this time around and what with the polka dot design in the background. I wanna go with a blue green gradient glaze on the inside. So stay tuned to see how this fires and I will be praying that it doesn't end up like the last one.
