People hand typed that. Yes. That is correct. Someone using their hands and brain wrote all that text and it was included as an article in Encarta '96. In fact, people wrote every single one of those articles on every single edition. And the people who wrote those probably used physical resources like books and they marked and made notes about the information in the books and used that to construct those articles. Not only that, but the authors also had background knowledge about the topic so that they could determine what to include and how to arrange it so that somebody who is learning about the topic for the first time could find the article useful. I used to write. I found something from when I was 11 about "Dreams in the Brain".
