My cousin's best friend was involved in a hit and run yesterday She was getting out of an Uber, went across the street, this car was speeding at an ungodly rate and end up hitting her. and she ended up losing her life. And I feel like for the last 24 hours is really been a range of emotions because this is my cousin's best friend. I have spent, like, a lot of time with her. And also, Thalia was one of the funniest people I've ever met in my life, and I don't find anybody funny in the whole entire world. And we also had just seen her at my cousin's graduation party. That happened, like, literally like a few weeks ago. And I feel like that was one of the hard parts. Cause during that conversation that we had at my cousin's graduation party, we're sitting there talking about all the things that she wants to do in life, and then you hear this type of news, and all you can think about is that it could have been completely avoidable. And that's, I think, the hardest pill to swallow, you know what I mean? Like, growing up in Sydney, I have lost people to gun violence. I even watch people get stabbed in front of me. I have had people that took their own life. And I feel like this is like, really doing something mentally, because it's like, she was such a great person, and then On top of that, it's like it could have been completely avoidable. And I also do really think that Philly needs to do something as a city to change how the streets are for pedestrians. Like, every single other day there is something on the news talking about how a biker got hit by a car or a pedestrian got hit by a car. And it's not necessarily like, my place to blame the Uber driver, but also, a lot of times when you get in these Ubers, there's no convenient place for you to actually be dropped off or let out of the car, so you end up having to, like, cross in major traffic. And I literally had come into the house a few days ago, and I was telling my husband, I'm like, it was so hard to get into this Uber I was getting from Chestnut Street. And if you don't know, Chestnut Street in Philadelphia is like a very popping, busy street. But there's nowhere to really pull, because now if the Uber pulls into the bus lane and get a 75 dollar ticket, they're there for like more than 32 seconds. So it's really nowhere to pull, and it's nowhere safe inconvenient for the Uber drivers to let you off. And sometimes if they have to make a U turn, So now you're just literally getting out in the middle of the street. And I just feel like, this is just completely avoidable on the other end, too, because whoever was driving that car, one needs to turn themselves in. But number two, why are you going 100 miles per hour down the street? Like, what is the point of this? What are we actually doing? And it really gets to a point where it's like, nwhere you. You are going is more important or more valuable than somebody's life. And I just don't get what the rush is, what, what, what, what all the passion is about, what all the road rage is about. Because it's just like, people can actually lose their life. For real. Like, this is serious, this is final. This is messed up. It's crazy. It's really so crazy. It's really so crazy to be talking to somebody about everything they wanna do in their life and how they're feeling, and then a few weeks later, it's like, And I just feel like as, like, a city entirely, something has to happen. Something has to be done. It's like, people can't just keep being in these avoidable situations just because. What? Because City Council doesn't wanna do anything? Because the mayor don't wanna do nothing? Because nobody wants to do anything. We all know it's a problem, and yet here we are.
