As a practitioner, I don’t compare to others while being in a room full of other humans moving on their mat. I’m immersed into my own worldly experience and expression. Curious of how I can contort my body into different asanas or find other adaptive ways to deepen poses for my body based on inception and properoception. What I’ve learned is that I don’t hold the same energy when it comes to being a new instructor. I study a lot of other amazing instructors and get discouraged by their artistry and knowledge. My level one compared to their lever 89 becomes heavy on my mind. I’m healing and releasing that unrealistic pressure to perform. Have the perfect breath. Cue. Storytelling, intention setting intro, flow, movement around the room, tango with hand on assist, or intentional cues that are geared towards a particular person, it’s a lot to hold all at once as a new instructor. I offer myself the grace to just be present. Allow mistakes and hiccups as I am learning. Holding space on the mat and leading a class has nothing to do about me. So I challenge myself to get out of my own head and just speak from the heart today. I am so excited to teach and honored to share my knowledge with you.
