Do you think you can answer five questions every Slavic studies major should know? Sure. Okay, so I'm going to ask you five questions, each one will get harder if you get it right. Okay. Number one, what are the Slavic languages? There's a lot. You got Czech, you got Polish, you got Ukrainian, you got Belarusian, you've got, um, yeah. I'll give it to you. One for one. Um, what is the Cyrillic alphabet? Cyrillic alphabet? Well, that's the alphabet that the Ukrainians and the Russians use. Yeah, good job. Two for two. Um, what is the historical significance of Kievan Rus? You just learned about this actually. So, it's the place in Ukraine. It's interesting because there's actually a common misspelling of Kievan Rus that's used nowadays because there's a Russian spelling and there's a Ukrainian spelling. So, it's more important that we use the Ukrainian spelling because Russia likes to claim that it's their land. So, that's a fun fact. There you go. I'll give it to you. Good job. Three for three. What is Pan-Slavism? I have no idea what that is. I've never heard of that. Okay, that is a political and cultural movement promoting unity among Slavic peoples. That's interesting. Okay, three for four. Last one. What is the impact of the Soviet Union on Slavic countries? Well, they took them all over and then there was Stalinism, which is terrible. Yeah, I'll give it to you. Four for five. And why are you studying Slavic culture? So, I'm actually writing a book about my great-great-grandfather. His name was Frantisek Mandik and he was a Czech dissident during World War II. He sacrificed his life, um, and he was assassinated in Nazi barracks. Um, he and his wife ran an illegal radio base operation, um, called the Three Kings in Prague and basically they held meetings, um, of presidents, of world leaders from all over Europe and they were working with the resistance organization and she was sent to Ravensbruck. She was number 8028 on block number eight, but she survived the camp. Yeah. That's Where can people find more information about like your Instagram or the book?
