because most store bought candles give me pretty bad headaches if I burn them inside but I really tried to avoid letting anything go to waste especially when it was gifted to me I have this little habit of keeping candles outside in the backyard for ambient lighting in the evenings this one was accidentally forgotten outside during the last storm and did not survive the Texas weather the wicks and wax were totally ruined but the jar itself was perfectly good and I love finding little ways to give things a second life and reduce waste so today I'm cleaning it out and turning it into something new instead of tossing it I'm gonna pour a brand new decorative candle into the same jar and the first step is to clean everything out melt any remaining wax and give the jar a good clean the candle I'm making to replace it is just a decorative candle so it's not meant to be burned it's just meant to be something pretty that'll sit on the shelf and welcome the changing seasons I made a two layer candle with some cute wax flowers and little honeycomb embeds and then finished it with a sprinkle of golden shimmer and just a touch of glitter and don't worry this is plastic free biodegradable glitter made with plant starch I feel like the last little details really tied everything together a label on the bottom a custom ribbon tied around the jar and suddenly it feels like a completely new piece there's something so comforting about taking something weathered and forgotten that was destined for the trash and turning it into something beautiful again now it feels perfectly at home somewhere between the last days of the summer and the first hints of autumn
