Why do I feel a breeze around this window seat? I feel cold air in the winter and in the summer the rooms warm. It's time to find out. Turns out removing the trim and the bench wasn't too bad. Found fiberglass insulation. It looks like more than air got in. Before fixing the air leaks I thought, let's quick refinish this window seat. I got everything cleaned up and now it's time to stop the air leaks. If you know me, you know my go-to is Great Stuff Wide Spray. It comes with two nozzles and I'm starting out with the fan tip. It covers larger surface areas and can spray up to 6 inches wide. Sometimes I miss some spots or want to add on a second layer. Learn the hard way. Wait until it's cured. Otherwise, it can blow away your first layer. This is what it looks like cured. And now I'm going to add on a second layer. I'm already feeling a difference in this room. The foam is really easy to remove once it's cured. Then I decided to add my favorite insulation to the rest of the cavities. I put a few protective coats on the bench and started to put it back together. You don't need a fancy nail gun to do this. You can just use finishing nails. I used my favorite nail punch tool that sinks the nail heads so you don't see them. But since I have a nail gun, I'm going to use that to put the trim on. Then I tried the flame test again, but this time the flame didn't move. Woohoo! Grab some from my Wide Spray link...in bio.
