believe it or not one of the safest places for your dog to ride in the car is laying down in the passenger footwell for a couple of reasons the first is because of the airbag. if the airbag deploys and your dog is laying in the footwell it will not be impacted by the airbag which is really important because airbags deploy with a ton of force so much force that they can kill a child the second reason is for your safety if you get in an accident your dog will not be able to be a free projectile and lastly it helps to keep the dog safe as well dogs free balling in the back seat are at high risk for injury and death because they are able to travel as a free projectile from the back seat into your window or even worse into you and then you're both injured and because of these safety factors this is actually how many guide dogs and service dogs are required to travel in cars but for pet dogs the gold standard is still going to be restraining your dog using some sort of crash tested restraint ideally a crash tested kennel and if you're not able to accommodate that a crash tested harness in the back seat none of this putting your dogs on the passenger seat and dear god NEVER ON YOUR LAP bye
