I’ve been wondering for a while how well plain paper scraps would work as fuel for the Piggy Power Ember. Amazon packing paper, cardboard scraps, paper plates, junk mail, basically the random stuff most people throw away every day. The Ember was designed to work from something as small as a three wick candle. You place almost any heat source underneath it, circulate cool water through the system, and it turns that heat into usable electricity. It could be a wood stove, propane burner, campfire, gas stove, or whatever else you have available during an emergency. So I filled the stove with paper scraps and gave it a shot. The test was a success. We made electricity and started charging the phone using literal trash. Side note, I swear I did not plan for the phone to start charging at 9:11 a.m. I noticed it afterward and couldn’t help laughing. We also discovered that the paper left behind some really cool charcoal instead of completely burning into ash, which was an unexpected bonus. The Ember is the smallest system I make.
