This Saudi guy gave up a career at Aramco to grow his family's bakery. Today, it has more than 100 branches. In 1976, Mohammed Saadeddin, a Saudi national of Palestinian origin, opened a small shop and sweets factory called Saadeddin Pastry in Alkhobar. By 1993, his son Ali had built a successful engineering career at Saudi Aramco. Then his father asked him to leave it and run the family business. He had never refused a request from his parents, so he made the switch. In 2013, he got a Guinness World Record cake shaped like Saudi Arabia. Three years later, he did it again with the world's largest palm tree made entirely of dates. By 2017, Ali said the company still followed his father's rule: Feed customers what you'd feed your own kids. The company also built clear career paths and benefits, helping retain more than 500 Saudi women in its factories. Today, Ali runs Saadeddin Pastry with his brothers Khaled and Omar. The company has over 100 branches across Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, with plans to expand into Brunei, and the US.
