Day 5 of being an Airbnb host and I asked my guest to leave. My second guest ever checked in to my Airbnb which is the home that I live in and I stay with my mom while I rent my house that I'm trying to pay some things off and save up to buy an investment property and it is Lollapalooza weekend in Chicago and I have my profile set to not be in automatic booking. I have to approve the booking and so this person booked and I checked her reviews and she had all five-star reviews so I was like, okay, perfect. Everything said like she left the house really clean. She was super respect Um so I'm like okay I'll book this. I'll let them stay. Group of six my booking says that I have a I can you can have a max of six guests at my house. So they check in around like five. First person comes and he brings in a pillow and a blanket. I'm like that's suspicious for like a young adult man to like need his blanket but who am I to judge? It is because nine people with cases of booze and lollapalooza wristbands just checked into my home. So I immediately panicked and then I thought like you know what to do. You're a businesswoman. This is your home. You're respectful. You were once young. And I sent a very nice message saying like legally which is true. I can only have six guests in my house for the city of Chicago. Um and this is my primary home and I want to be really mindful of my neighbors. So I can only have six of you stay. If three of you want to leave I we can leave the reservation as is. If you do if you all want to in the next few hours I'm happy to offer a full refund so you can find somewhere else to stay. Um but like I can't have all of you stay there. She ends up asking if she can call me. I also called Airbnb for support. And she's like I didn't know like I thought we could just sleep on the couches. And I'm like I can't have this in my and then she reveals to me that more people were coming because it's her birthday. Which like I understand I was young once too but I've never zoned a party in an Airbnb. Um. And so I basically said like I can't have a party at my house. I can't have more than six people stay. And she is currently going to she said she has to figure it out which I totally respect and understand. So I'm giving her some time to figure it out and we'll see what happens. I will keep you posted. I took myself on a little walk to calm myself down because I am feeling quite nervous. Partially because of my people pleaser skills that I don't want to upset anyone who is like on this fun birthday trip. But ultimately it's my house. My responsibility. Um it is about me wanting to be respectful to my neighbors. And for the safety of them in my house so anyway I will keep you posted. I think this is just part of how it goes and whatever happens I will figure it out. The next day. Sue me I'm an outfit repeater. My guest that brought too many guests and was planning to throw a party at my house has left. She decided that she would find new accommodations for the weekend and I will offer her a full refund as long as the house is in okay condition so I'm currently sitting outside House. Let's go in and see how it looks. I'm kind of scared. Just came in and the house is in perfectly fine condition. So, I will be happy to offer her a full refund. The stuff on the counter is mine. I'm bummed it didn't work out but also my primary goal was to protect my house and my neighborhood and that is just not a good fit for me so I'll update the my listing to make sure it's abundantly clear that I won't tolerate parties or people bringing more than six guests and we'll try again for our next rental.
