One of the biggest misconceptions in Thailand is that every restaurant displaying the Michelin Guide logo has a Michelin Star. In reality, the Michelin Guide is the book (or app) that recommends outstanding restaurants, and there are several levels of recognition. ⭐ Michelin Stars (1, 2 or 3 stars): Awarded for exceptional cooking and worth making a special trip for. 🍽️ Bib Gourmand: My personal favorite. These restaurants serve amazing food at great value, which is why you’ll find so many incredible local restaurants and street food stalls with this distinction. 📍 Michelin Selected: Restaurants that impressed Michelin inspectors enough to be included in the Guide, even without a Star or Bib Gourmand. So why do you see Michelin signs everywhere in Thailand? Because Thailand has one of the world’s most vibrant food scenes, and Michelin actively reviews everything from luxury fine dining to humble family-run noodle shops. The Guide has expanded every year since arriving in Thailand in 2018, making the country one of Asia’s top culinary destinations. And Bangkok alone? The city currently has 79 Michelin-recognized restaurants across all distinctions, including Michelin Stars and Bib Gourmand, making it one of the best food cities in the world. So next time you see a Michelin Guide plaque outside a restaurant, don’t assume it’s Michelin-starred. It might actually be an even better value. #Thailand #BangkokFood #MichelinGuide #ThaiFood #Foodie
