if you really watch the Housewives it is so much deeper than just watching women fight on TV and we're so drawn to it because a lot of it is psychology now in the previous series we talked about the sociology of housewives who was the bone collector who's the it girl the villain but now we need to talk about their psychology because sometimes the biggest reason that we think a housewife is right actually has nothing to do with the facts and everything to do with whether or not we like her now there is no better current example than Porsha and Shamea I really think the way people view the friendship breakup is based off of how much they like Porsha because once the audience or even the cast members decide which one of the two of them is the villain every scene just becomes another receipt and this here is what we call confirmation bias confirmation bias is just our natural tendency to look for proof and receipts to confirm things that we already believe to be so granted Porsha has 10 seasons behind her we have gotten to know her on different levels we get to see her as being a funny happy go lucky Porsha and if you love that about Porsha you probably are gonna see her as the one that's right in the situation but if you are on the flip side and you are not a Porsha fan and you think that she's manipulative a liar and so on and so forth you probably are Team Shamea and I think there's a strong case for feeling either way I do just find it super interesting how both sides use different evidence to state their case a supporter is probably gonna interpret her unbotheredness as a sign of maturity her shade as humor her distance as a boundary and Shamea's anger as jealousy and a Shamea supporter might interpret her anger as years of resentment her success in her life is threatening to Porsha and Porsha's boundaries as a form of punishment for Shamea as viewers and I think the cast as well a lot of us are not looking at every individual scene for what we can take from it but how does it support our thesis you can see this across the franchise people who entered the conflict believing that Teresa was just protecting her family not wanting this drama on the show believe that Melissa was opportunistic and people that view Teresa as somebody that was the problem in the family or controlling the family view Melissa as innocent and the one that made the most effort to make amends talk about this with Kim and Kyle and whether we interpret Kyle's behavior as her being an exhausted sister trying to manage a family crisis with Kim or if you viewed her as a controlling sister that exposed Kim's vulnerability on camera now the real question in all of these debates isn't just who is right it's really this if your least favorite housewife acted the exact same way as your fave in that situation would you still defend it because sometimes we're not watching Housewives like objective viewers defense attorneys for the women that we already chose as our faves and confirmation bias is really only the beginning in the next video we're gonna talk about why our favorite housewife is always just reacting to what she's going through or her circumstances but when somebody we dislike does the exact same thing we attributed to her character aka fundamental attribution error y'all tell me in which housewife fuse do you think we show the most confirmation bias in and then to my psychology and Housewives lovers what other psychological phenomenon should we break down for this series
