I think this may be the most immersive walk I've ever been on and if you love the idea of hiking an old railway line where you can walk through old tunnels, cross bridges and dine on disused platforms you will love this. This is the Monsal Trail in the Peak District, an 8.5 mile traffic free trail and with cycle hire available along the route, it is perfect for cyclists as well as hikers. Stretching from Bakewell to Blackwell Mill, the route follows the former Manchester to London Midland Railway line. And as you're walking you almost feel like you are with long old through railway bridges and platforms still visible. Start from Bakewell where you'll find old station with direct access. And we usually the halfway point before turning and the whole route flat and very easy to follow. This extraordinary trail has six tunnels along the way with the longest around 400 meters and lit during daylight hours. There are two cafes along the trail hidden inside old stations. Hassop Station is at the Bakewell trail and is with plenty of seating. They do really good cake. Miller's Dale is at the other end of the trail. It doesn't have quite as good food offering but the station is amazing with both sides of the platform you can enjoy a coffee alongside track. The interiors are so cute. It's also home to the Goods Shed. Peak District Park. SS Shed. If you have you get to the iconic Headstone Viaduct. You can take up to Monsal Head where you can enjoy incredible views. Ice cream or at the Monsal Stables Bar. Doing this I'll put more details in the caption. So save this Peak District adventure and follow me.
