Maybe it's just me but I don't understand how you can talk about black issues and have a white wife. Make it make sense.. I think this comes down to the kind of white person you're talking about. My wife is 25 years old. Her father was born in the year 1942. Think about that. Do the math. It was a different era back then. My father-in-law is an award-winning playwright. He's recently written and produced a play called "Mumbet." For those of you who don't know, "Mumbet" is a story about Elizabeth Mumbet Freeman, the first enslaved black woman in the state of Massachusetts to successfully sue for her freedom. So that's the latest on what he's been up to. He also never leaves his home without having a pride pin on his sport coat. Again, the man was born in 1942. His mother-in-law, may her soul rest in peace, I'll describe her this way. The very first time I go over to her house, which is now my house, I walk to the front doors and there is this enormous anti-racism sign. I go to my then girlfriend, now wife, and I say, "What's up with the sign?" I appreciate the message, it's great, but is this performative? Come to find out, the sign's been there since she purchased the house in the 1990s. My mother-in-law quite literally dedicated her life to advocacy for those who needed it most. And she raised a daughter and wife who carries those same values and beliefs every day. If this were 50 or 60 years ago, there's no doubt in my mind, my wife will be the kind of person marching alongside activists and civil rights leaders. I don't know about your white person, but this is my wife.
