My first impressions
of Prince Edward
Island 🇨🇦
after 48 hours as someone
visiting the island for the first time
1. Islanders really love being
islanders ❤️
I've travelled around quite a bit of
Canada now but I don't think I've
ever met people who talk about
where they're from quite like
Islanders do. There's a genuine
pride when people tell you
they're from PEI.
2. There's something special
about seeing PEI through an
Islander's eyes
My friend grew up here and
offered to show me around. To
me these were beautiful places
I'd never seen before but to him
they were memories
3. The red sand is
actually RED
I knew PEI was famous for its
red soil but I did not expect
the beaches and cliffs to be
THIS red. It genuinely doesn't
look real.
4. Everybody knows
everybody!! 🤪
After 48 hours here I'm
convinced there are about two
degrees of separation between
everyone on this Island. As an
Irish person this feels VERY
familiar 🇮🇪
5. Islanders want you to
love PEI too ❤️
Tell someone it's your first time
here and suddenly you have a
full list of beaches, food spots
and places you HAVE to see. It
feels like people are sharing a
little piece of home with you.
6. Cows is a rite of
passage 🍦
I think I was here 5 minutes before
someone told me I couldn't leave
without getting COWS. Happy to
report I've completed my
initiation 😅
7. Local really means
local here ❤️
I got to meet the owners of
Holman's and it made me realize
something. When Islanders
recommend places, they're often
recommending people and
stories, not just businesses.
8. PEI weirdly reminds
me of Ireland 🇮🇪
The coastline, the small
communities and knowing
everyone. There's something
about Island people, I think :)
9. I think I finally
understand 'Island pride'
After watching people proudly
show me their beaches, towns,
food and childhood spots I
realized "Islander" isn't just where
you're from. It's part of who you
are.
10. Small island but big
sense of home
I came here expecting red sand,
seafood and lighthouses. I didn't
expect to be so struck by how
much people genuinely love this
place and I think that's what makes
you fall in love with it too :)
And this is only my first 48
hours!! I already understand
why Islanders are so proud
to call this place home 🏡
