The audio - K9 Ace comes face to face with danger Lakeland, Florida - K9 Ace is stable, and we are so grateful. But this update is about something that will stop you in your tracks. The Polk County Sheriff's Office has released the audio transmissions between deputies and dispatch from the moments right after shots rang out last night on August 6th, 2026. And in those transmissions, you can hear it - the sadness, the sorrow, the raw emotion in the voice of Deputy Sheriff Nat Oestreicher, Ace's two-legged partner, the woman who was right there with him when everything happened. The entire team moved fast and worked hand in hand to get Ace the care he needed immediately. From the first responders on scene to the emergency vet clinic, to the Aeromed helicopter crew, to the specialty team at Veterinary Medical Center at Lakewood Ranch — every single person in that chain did their part to keep Ace alive. And it worked. Ace is stable. His front leg was amputated, and he has a long road ahead. But he is here. And Deputy Oestreicher's voice in those transmissions will remind you exactly why this dog matters and what he and his partner faced together that night.
