This was my first time at a Turkish meyhane and it won't be the last. This is Kismet and it can be found in Borough Market tucked above the Globe Tavern. A meyhane is essentially the Turkish equivalent of a pub and you really get that vibe from this open fire cooking spot. From Dom Hamdy known for Crispin and Bistro Freddie and Chef Kieran Mustafa. We of course started with the mezze and one of my favourite dishes of the day had to be the atom. This is a strained Turkish yoghurt with a foaming hot chilli butter poured over the top. Silky smooth and has this great tartness to it. The tarama was also delicious. I'm a sucker for some good bread and dips. Another stand out dish had to be the Bulgur Köftesi. Super simple bulghur wheat, beef and onions and all you need is a drizzle of fresh lemon. We also got the sigara boregi, which is feta in a yufka pastry. As you can see, the feta is absolutely molten on the inside. I think I would have preferred the yufka a bit crispier. The main event, we got the monkfish kebab, served with that epic chilli butter. The monkfish was cooked to absolute perfection, as was this lamb neck, served on a dirty bread soaked in all of the meat juices. And not to be dramatic, but these were the best chips I've had in a restaurant in a very long time.
