We hit our first setback in Birdie’s recovery today😭 I’ve been checking her incisions constantly, and today I noticed her tail incision just didn’t look as healthy as it had the past few days. I wasn’t willing to take ANY chances so within an hour, I had her at the nearest veterinary hospital. They do believe she has an infection, so Birdie is being admitted overnight and they’re starting her on IV antibiotics immediately. Tomorrow I have an appointment with their head vet to go over everything and figure out our plan from here🐾🥹 I’ve had her surgeon and original hospital in the loop all day with what’s going on! They told me it’s really good that I caught the change so quickly and brought her in right away, which makes me feel a little better. Right now, one of the most important things for her is being in the cleanest, most controlled environment possible, and as much as I hate leaving her there, I know that’s something a hospital can provide better than I can! I had a pretty big meltdown today😭 We JUST got her back. I’ve been doing everything I possibly can to keep her clean, safe and healing well, so seeing anything go wrong after everything she’s already been through absolutely breaks my heart💔 But I also know complications can happen after such a massive surgery, and the second something didn’t look right, I acted. That’s all I can do. So tonight Birdie is exactly where she needs to be, getting antibiotics, being monitored, and hopefully kicking this thing before it has a chance to become anything bigger🤞🏼I don’t know much more than that yet. I’m really hoping this is just a little bump in the road. I’ll know more tomorrow and of course I’ll take you guys with us through all of it! And because Birdie would never approve of Bodie and me ending the day crying in a hospital parking lot… my little trooper who spent the whole day along for the ride got to catch sunset at the beach🌊🌅🏔️
