pretty privilege is definitely a real thing but what we don't talk about as much is pretty punishment. We're gonna call this girl C and C was known as like the pretty girl in my grade. For the first like year of high school I never interacted with this girl but I heard a lot about her. People would say she's mean, fake, a bitch, whatever. So without even having met this girl I already formed an opinion on her. I kind of just thought she was the mean popular girl archetype. So fast forward a year later and we end up in a class together. One day we're doing group work and I have to be her partner. And like at this point in high school I had dealt with my fair share of mean girls. So I'm basically preparing for the worst. Like I know all the mean girl behavior. But genuinely we go sit down to do the group work and she's acting very normal. Dare I say she was even a little bit nice. Like I used to do this ridiculous eyeliner every single day for school. And she complimented me on my eyeliner. Like wow, your eyeliner is so cute. I wish I could do my eyeliner like that. No, the compliment was normal. I didn't think she was being catty in any way. So after that my perspective on her obviously changed a bit. I realized that a lot of people were just looking for a reason to hate her. So I moved schools and I never talked to C again. But I would still hear things about her like semi-regularly. Like I think she won some sort of poetry competition or an academic award. But I never heard about these things because people were happy for her. It was always like, oh, she only gets everything because of her looks. She wouldn't have won that if she wasn't so pretty. And honestly, I think that kind of sucks. That it didn't matter what she did. People were always going to find a reason to hate on her and discredit her accomplishments. Anyways, fast forward a few more years and I run into some people from high school. And of course, C gets brought up. And I'm one of the girls like what this girl is up to now. And one of the girls is like, I don't know, she's probably dating like a bunch of rich guys now. So I like pull up her profile to see what she's doing. She went to engineering school. Pretty privilege can get you into a lot of things, but it can't get you into engineering. I don't want anyone to take this video the wrong way. I think that we're saying that like it's so hard to be pretty. There are also a lot of inherent benefits that come to beauty that I'm sure that girl experienced. But that doesn't negate the fact that there's also certain challenges. If you find that you're hating on somebody when you don't really know them, then that's probably your own jealousy talking.
