🚨📸 PHOTOS: DOWNTOWN YAKIMA BANK STANDOFF — MACHETE, FIRE & FENTANYL | 8/10/26 New details are emerging following Monday evening's standoff at the BMO Bank at 522 E. Yakima Avenue. Police were called to the bank around 4:50 PM on August 10 after receiving reports of a man inside the building armed with a machete and acting erratically. The man, identified as 29-year-old Alexander Eloy Sánchez, remained inside the bank while a large law enforcement response developed outside. Bank employees and others were able to safely evacuate the building. Officers then established a perimeter around the bank while crisis negotiators and tactical teams worked to bring the situation to a peaceful end. The response included Yakima Police, Yakima County Sheriff's deputies, SWAT personnel and other Valley law enforcement resources. Tactical officers took positions around the building, while armored vehicles were deployed, including a YPD BearCat equipped with a battering ram. During the standoff, prosecutors said Sánchez started a small fire inside the bank. He eventually came out of the building with his hands raised and was taken into custody. Thankfully, no one was injured. 📋 CURRENT BOOKING CHARGES According to the Yakima County inmate roster, Sánchez was booked on: • Carry-Exhibit-Draw Dangerous Weapon • Computer Trespass 2 • Malicious Mischief 2 • Robbery 1 Sánchez appeared in Yakima County Superior Court Tuesday. The judge ordered him held on $100,000 bail, with the court citing concerns about public safety and his likelihood of appearing for future proceedings. Additional information presented in court included allegations that Sánchez was using fentanyl while inside the bank. His public defender also told the court that Sánchez has mental health issues and that his family had become concerned about his deteriorating condition.
