There’s something funny about how alcohol can make people incredibly honest about where their mind naturally goes. When someone’s had a few drinks, sometimes the person they suddenly want to call, text, FaceTime, or come home to is the person they’re most emotionally attached to. They miss you, they want your attention, and suddenly every thought they would’ve normally kept to themselves becomes a message on your phone. But not texting you while drunk definitely isn’t proof that someone doesn’t love you. Some people put their phone away when they’re drinking, get completely caught up with their friends, become sleepy instead of affectionate, or intentionally avoid texting because they know they’ll say something ridiculous. Love isn’t measured by whether your name appears on someone’s screen after three drinks. What matters much more is who they choose consistently when they’re completely sober. Do they think about you during ordinary days? Do they communicate, show affection, protect your trust, and make you feel wanted when there’s no alcohol influencing them? A drunk “I miss you” can be adorable, but the person who chooses you clearly and consistently with a completely sober mind is the one whose feelings you should actually trust.
