I just got married as a 27-year-old who's also self-employed, so here's how we're merging our finances. I feel like this should be a reminder that the system that you choose today doesn't have to be the system that you choose for the rest of your life. This is what we're working with now, but I'm sure as our life changes, as we have kids, things will change, how we manage our money will change, and that's OK. Now we decided we're doing kind of like a joint but separate method. We're going to be using a SoFi checking and high yield savings account as our joint household account and then we'll both have our separate bank accounts as well. I also added him to my Amex Gold. We decided that that's going to be our like one household credit card, so one household checking and savings, one household credit card. We each split our direct deposit, so a portion of our income goes into that household checking account and then the rest goes into our personal bank account. Everything that's related to us and our household goes into our joint system and then our personal is really just for like anything extra, kind of like fun money for our joint savings right now. We kept it kind of simple. We have our emergency fund, we have a house fund, we have a travel fund, and then we have a gifts fund. That's why I love this high yield savings account because you can organize your savings into these buckets to make sure you know where every dollar goes. This is obviously new to me, so let me know how you manage your money as a couple.
