I travel at least once a month and usually for free. This is episode one of Nosy Numbers, a series where I show you the behind the scenes of financially ambitious, 27-year-old, aka me, lives. The end of this month, I'll have gone on three trips, with the large majority of the costs not coming out of my monthly budget. First, I use three different credit cards responsibly, okay? To rack up credit card points that I redeem for travel. My points covered $813.58 of flights to New York City for my friend and I, a hotel for my upcoming solo trip. And second, I save for travel every single month in a sinking fund. I think people feel like you need to have a trip planned in order to save for it, but you don't. And that's the whole point of a sinking fund. I love to travel, so even though I don't always know what trip I will take, I will take a trip. So I save every single month that whenever that inevitable itch to get on a plane comes, I have money there to cover the points don't cover. Let me know if you want a tour of my sinking funds or to hear more about the credit cards that I use.
